Best’s is named alongside the Best of the Best: Langton’s VII Classification
The classification of Australian wines
Every four years, the prestigious auction house Langton’s releases a new classification of Australian Wines which highlights the best performing, most collected, and esteemed wines, based on the wines reputation and track record at auction. As noted by Langton’s “despite more than 10,000 wines being produced in Australia each year. There are relatively few wines that achieve the grade of Langton’s Classification. It is the most prestigious accolade an Australian wine can receive because of the investment in quality. Consistency of demand and the emotional response of collectors.”
Best’s Thomson Family Shiraz and Bin No. 0
Best’s has always featured prominently, with Thomson Family Shiraz and Bin No. O Shiraz both included since 2005.
Rarely are new wines included in the elite ‘Exceptional Classification.’ It’s the best of the best. So we are thrilled to announce that in the VII classification. Which was announced in early September, our Thomson Family Shiraz has been elevated to “Exceptional” status. These are the most highly sought after and prized-first growth type Australian wines on the market. The list of 22 includes well recognised Australian wines like Penfolds Grange, Henschke Hill of Grace, Seppeltsfield 100 Year old Para, Moss Wood Cabernet, Mount Mary Quintet and Wendouree Shiraz. We’re the only Victorian Shiraz to be in such an elite class. Bin 0 also fared well, also being elevated to the “Outstanding” category.
There’s some elite globally renowned wines in the Classification. As a small family owned winery we’re incredibly proud to see the Thomson Family Shiraz and Bin No. O Shiraz stand alongside these other Australian greats. We’ve never been a family to shout about accolades or chase recognition for our craft. But the tears in the eyes, shy smiles and beaming glows when hearing of the news were enough to demonstrate just how much this means. Viv Thomson noted that “these specific Best’s wines really speak of our place, our vineyards and our family. It’s incredibly humbling to be considered amongst the best Australia has to offer.” Having the best people in place, and allowing them the freedom (albeit under his watchful eye) allows us to continue to produce truly exceptional wines.
