Best's Great Western 2013 '13 Acre' Cabernet Sauvignon

Bright purple with a ruby hue.  Fine aromatics of dark berries, mountain herbs, violets and fresh tobacco leaf.  Medium bodied and juicy wild berries mingle with savoury tones of coffee and earth and layers of fine boned, drying tannins.

Wine Profile

The first vineyard you will encounter at the entrance of Best’s. Consisting mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon and smaller quantities of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot, this vineyard produces tiny amounts of intensely flavoured fruit. Only produced when the conditions are right to fully ripen the Cabernets and attain the balance and complexity achieved with the other varieties.

This wine was reincarnated in 2012, the first time since 2005, as in November 2006 the vineyard was hit with a severe frost when the temperature plummeted to -7ºC. It took this time and lots of careful nurturing for the vines to recover and regain their balance.

This is an excellent cabernet which, even though well in its youth, is drinking well now. The release tasting notes are spot on for accuracy and I have ordered more of this wine to cellar.
