Wine Profile

Best’s Great Western as a Shiraz ‘house’ has gathered experience with the variety through the legacy of Best’s long winemaking history dating back to 1866. Bin 1 Shiraz is the wine that often gives people an introduction to the regional style of Great Western Shiraz.

Made predominantly from Best’s own vineyards and meticulously crafted with the same attention to detail as the Icon wines, Bin 1 Shiraz represents the essence of Best’s Great Western winemaking ideals and the uniqueness of the Great Western region.

Bin 1 is a classic, cool climate, aromatic Shiraz, made in a style that is perfumed, spicy and peppery, yet well balanced with no overt dominance of alcohol. It’s a great match with food - particularly dishes like spring lamb.

I have to admit to being biased towards Bests wines. I have been a part of their cellar experience, ever since I arrived in the country. This current shiraz. It is right up there with previous vintages.Big ,bold, and full of fruit flavour, with a long finish. I can highly recommend this wine to anyone who hasn't tried it before.

Summary: YUM! Fruity, dark, smooth, pepper, bold and saucy number balanced perfectly for my taste buds.

Waffle: Obviously I do not know the correct wine banter but for those of us who just want to know if it's good or not - Yes it is 10/10. This is what a shiraz is all about. This wine did not last long at my house, I could write a number of excuses why it didn't but I won't bore you with these as it was quite simply delicious. This wine is the good pair of jeans that everyone needs, you can dress it up with a dinner party with wine snobs and an eye fillet or dress it down (like myself) enjoying a pizza in your trackies. This price point, the renowned name and the quality of the product allows for this.

This wine feels very sensual and grabs your attention without demanding it. I am sure you can keep it in your wine rack/cellar for a while but I would advise to drink it now and don't wait.

I will happily invite this shiraz back to my place most weekends.

Another great Shiraz from Bests! Rich, dark red. Plum and berry aromas. Blueberry flavours full bodied, well rounded, smooth and lingering flavours.

The Bin 1 Shiraz already emits a lively cherry and dark forest fruits bouquet for such a youthful wine. Its rich depth of ruby colour delivers a medium bodied mouthfeel with great balance, which carries the same flavours through to the palate. This wine is very drinkable over the short term 1-3 years but will reward letting it rest 15+ to be something truly exciting. Will match meats like lamb rack or duck with roasted beets. Great value.

What a find! This wine had such a strong delicious aroma even before tasting that drew us across the room to sample it. It had a good gutsy colour and mild and smooth flavours of rasberries, blueberries and blackberries. I enjoyed this wine with my neighbours and a tasty cheese platter of french brie, quince paste and biscuits. The wine was the perfect accompaniment without being overpowering. I would definitely recommend this Shiraz, especially during winter!

What a great value shiraz. Black pepper, oak and berries, blackcurrant I thought in particular. Dry yet well rounded. Drinkable now, but will no doubt further improve with some cellaring. Very versatile shiraz, I enjoyed the first glass with a piece of fillet steak, the moved on to some squares of dark chocolate. Went beautifully with both!
