Two Best’s Wines make Halliday Top 100 in 2020
We are thrilled to announce that two of our wines have made James Halliday’s Top 100 Wines for 2020. Read on to find out more about the judging process and Halliday’s reviews.
James Halliday’s Top 100 Wines
There’s a lot of anticipation in the lead up to the release of Halliday’s annual Top 100 Wines. While the Halliday Wine Companion provides a comprehensive guide to Australian wine, the Top 100 is a more definitive list, highlighting wines of value in their respective price categories over and under $25.
The wines are drawn from Halliday’s database of more than 2800 wineries. This year, 325 of those wineries were invited to send six of their best wines for tasting. There were 1055 wines tasted this year, and on 14 November, 100 of those wines were published in The Weekend Australian Magazine and on the Halliday Wine Companion Online.
Best’s Wines named in Halliday’s Top 100
We are thrilled that our 2020 Great Western Riesling and our 2019 Old Vine Pinot Meunier were named in the line-up. This is what Halliday had to say:
—-
2019 Old Vine Great Western Pinot Meunier
Top Red Wines over $25
“The perfumed bouquet of violets and roses introduces a palate with that absolute certainty of place. Like ripples of water lapping the shore at night, its tapestry of flavours is endlessly complex, yet subtle. You must come to it, for there’s no fireworks here, but when you do, you will taste a truly great wine.”

2020 Great Western Riesling
Top White Wines under $25
“The vines are direct descendants of the 1866 plantings in the Nursery Block. A core of sweet lime juice essence and spine-tingling acidity makes a wine that follows in the footsteps of its multi-gold medal winning predecessors. An indefinite life span.”
