2013 Bin No. 0 Shiraz
97 points - James Halliday
We have produced Shiraz at Best’s Great Western since the late 1800s, although the actual date of the first ‘Bin No. 0’ Great Western Shiraz is lost in the annals of time. What is certain is that our Best’s Bin No. 0 Shiraz is generally produced from our oldest plantings and selected from the lowest yielding blocks of the historic Concongella Vineyard at Great Western.
In recent years, Bin No 0 Shiraz has been made only from our four heritage Shiraz blocks surrounding the winery and homestead. These are the 1867 Thomson Family Block, the 1966 Barts Block, 1970 Block and The Hill. Each of these blocks provides unique characters to the resulting wine – The Hill block, for instance, provides an aromatic dimension to its fruit because of the fast-draining white gravel soil.
Bin No. 0 is made to be an age-worthy style and has been the undisputed icon of Great Western Shiraz for many decades. It is internationally acclaimed as one of Australia’s finest Shiraz wines.
