2021 GW Riesling

The Riesling vines from Great Western produce flavorsome, elegantly structured, spectacularly age-worthy Rieslings which stand confidently alongside some of the most outstanding Australian examples of the variety. In recent times, the style has evolved to match the continental climatic conditions to a beautifully balanced wine with texture and aromatics.

The Riesling at Best's have a proven ability to mature gracefully for 20 years or more.  This example is no exception and its youthful freshness is a good sign for its long life in the cellar.  It will gather complex toasty aromas and flavours as the years pass.

Clean, crisp, slightly acidic with a slightly spritzig character and pronounced citrus notes. Very full flavoured with complex mouth feel and sustained finish. Ideal for immediate drinking but I suspect will age into something of special richness - an improvement on 2020 - and that is saying something - Thank you Bests

This is a very interesting wine for a young Riesling. More than acceptable to drink now. Perfect acidity, fresh spring nose. I tasted this over a few days and a beautiful Granny Smith Apple greeted me day two. My food were oysters and prawns. Oysters with pepper overpowered this wine. I then tried them with oysters natural and they matched perfectly. Prawns with seafood sauce was next but the sauce was too much. Prawns natural, slightly salted pair very well. I would love to try this with a BBQ pork chop and apple sauce, or at a big gathering a Porchetta on a spit. We should buy a case and drink one each year as I believe cellaring will develop this wine. Can we wait though!

This is a ripping “Rizza’. It’s light straw in colour with flashes of pale gold. A solid swirl reveals aromas of lemon curd and lime zest with the florally fragrant lift of lemon blossom and honeysuckle. There’s also a beguiling summer sniff of rain on a hot slate stone path. In the mouth there’s a full-frontal flush of citrus flavours with a lively line of acid leading to a lingering and satisfying finish. We enjoyed our bottle with a Thai yellow curry of chicken infused with palm sugar, fish sauce and kafir lime leaves – a fantastic combination. Top stuff this!

Lemon lime upfront with zingy acidity. Balanced out nicely with a little more residual sweetness than a bone dry Reisling and a long finish. Really uniquely crafted Reisling, perfect partners with fresh oysters on a beautiful sunny afternoon.

Pale straw with a green tinge. Bright. Tropical fruits on the nose including kiwi, lime and passionfruit. On the palate, lovely clean acid, citrus, particularly lime, passion fruit. Quality wine here. Go well with a fragrant curry or a seafood salad with Asian flavours. Also would stand alone well as an aparertif.

Classic lemon/lime citrus acidity that has an impressively long finish in the mouth .This wine also has an undertone of white flower and peach? complexity that takes it to another level.Should age well but is attractive now.Very strong value
