2019 LSV Shiraz

2019 LSV Shiraz
95 points - James Halliday

This wine has vibrant plush concentrated fruit and is medium bodied.  It will certainly benefit more with some time, so to form more complex aromatics and flavours.

Enjoy with a Rack of Lamb.

This ripping Shiraz is a deeply dark garnet colour with flashes of bright purple. A swirl reveals aromas of black cherry and blackberry compote with hints of Turkish delight, freshly cracked black peppercorns and crushed star anise. The palate is lively and elegant with red and black berry fruit flavours and shows a delicate balance of acid and a shake of finely grained tannin. Fantastic with my chargrilled New York cut of grass fed beef but would go fantastically with grilled lamb cutlets with Moroccan spices.

A classic Great Western districts Shiraz - big complex and balanced in its youth with great ageing potential. Buttery, chewy ,concentrated, dense and fruity with great length and character. A very great achievement and a unique personality

As you pour this wine the first thing to notice is the vibrant colour helped by the co-ferment with Viognier. There is Blueberry and Pepper on the nose. The Viognier addition makes this young wine perfect to drink now and if you are a red wine aperitif drinker (like me) this is the one for you! I had planned a slow cooked lamb shoulder to have with this wine but a fine sunny day and work in the garden left me with home made burgers which were fantastic with the wine. As it happens, I do have another bottle of the LSV and will try with the lamb. Drink this wine now or cellar if you can, but you cannot cellar everything! Remember wine always tastes better if shared with like minded friends.

Beautiful Shiraz, medium to full bodied full mouth feel. Dark fruits, plumbs and Blackberry. There is such a harmonious balance to this wine, seductive smooth and moreish. Not a hair out of place! Amazing value at the price and should develop some interesting secondary characteristics over time. Highly recommend.

Colour is dark crimson with a purple heart Long legs running down the glass. Nose is lifted with floral notes. Mulberry, plum with a hint of clove, black olive, cedar and black rose petal. Beautiful nose. So warm and soft on the palate. The elevation of the vineyard speaks. Black fruits, mulberry and plum continue from the bouquet. Beautifully balanced. Fruits and acid in harmony with spices of white pepper, nutmeg and cinnamon. Lovely soft tannins yet to integrate. I would love to taste this wine in 20 years. Match with slow cooked beef cheeks or pink lamb cutlets with a reduction sauce made with this wine.

Adding viognier to Shiraz is by no means a new idea but this is an excellent example of exactly why it’s done! How is it that the addition of white wine ,albeit in small quantities, bring a sharpness to the deep garnet colour and highlights the fruit palate of this wine … Spice and pepper with black currant make for a lovely drink immediately but if you can wait I think it will reward cellaring. That said, some wines are enjoyable in their youth and this is one of those.

It was enjoyed with a beef brisket pie at the family dinner table. The wine was found to be peppery with a full body and bold berry undertones. Tannins are evident as expected, but not overpowering for a young wine. Enjoyable to drink now and it will be great to try again in 5+ years time.

Generous wine with wholefruited mouthfeel. Round and balanced it yields blackberry nip and black plum richness.

A minute percentage of Viognier alongside whole berry fermentation makes for a very pretty drink particularly after air time.

Fennel and forest undergrowth, a harness to unbridled juiciness is very welcome here.

Black forest cake complete with chocolate shavings, this cake, ahem wine, must surely be the 8th deadly sin. Pure seduction
