Pinot Meunier Pinot Noir
Our blended Pinot was born out of the poorer years when there was not enough fruit to make individual wines, and so it continues. Each year gives us something different and the fruit for this wine can come from any of three patches of vines - Old Vine Pinot Meunier, Young Vine Pinot Meunier and the Old Clone Pinot Noir. To date this wine has only been produced twice, 2016 and now 2017.
In good years the best fruit from our old Pinot Meunier vines goes into the Old Vine Pinot Meunier wine and the best Pinot Noir fruit from our “Best’s clone” Pinot Noir vines goes into our Old Clone Pinot Noir wine. Depending on the vintage and the winemaking requirements some of the balance goes into this blend along with the Young Vine Meunier. In low yielding years, it all goes in together to make a single wine for that vintage. Typically, our pinots are fermented in individual batches with some whole bunches, the year determining the technique used. Aging is in small French oak barrels with only a small proportion of new oak.
These wines show good length and vibrant fruit characters on the palate. Medium bodied cherry flavours and spice aromas along with silky tannins tell part of its story. A unique wine that has to be tasted to truly understand and appreciate.
