2017 Bart’s Block Shiraz

Best's Bart's Block Shiraz

TASTING NOTES

Colour: Deep purple with a magenta hue.
Bouquet: A rich and inviting nose of black olives, pepper, blackberry, perfumed red florals and grilled nuts.
Palate: Seductive and opulent fruit in a medium bodied frame of long velvety tannins and vibrant acidity with a softly drying finish.

Good to drink in the short term but this wine will improve in the cellar for 20 years or more.

Vintage: Fantastic winter rains set the vineyards up for ideal spring growing conditions that saw great flowering and fruit set. The mild summer conditions and long ripening period (with some timely small rain events) ensured that the fruit matured in near perfect conditions for harvest. A vintage that has more resemblance to those of the 80s and 90s than the vintages of this century.

REVIEWS

Halliday Wine Companion 2020
The vineyard was planted in 66’ to be released in 2020 to celebrate the Thomson Family’s 100th year history and custodianship of the property and vineyard. Fermented with 25% whole bunches, matured in French oak (20%new). The colour is brilliant crimson, deep but bright. Yes, there’s fantastic fruit that’s been handled with kid gloves and yes, it’s got ’17 written all over it with its dazzling red fruits and (almost unseen) acidity to protect its freshness.
Rating: 98 points – drink to 2047
