We had not tasted previous vintages of this wine and we tasted it with two vintages of the White Gravels Hill Shiraz. This wine is again beautifully integrated in the Best's style that we are accustomed to in their Shiraz wines. Fruit dominates with medium bodied intense characters of cherry ripe, aniseed and cedar. The wine should benefit from further cellaring but is very easy drinking now. We think this one is definitely suited to red meat roasts, but would please with any dish that you would have with a good red. 2016 looks like a great vintage!

Our little wine group (14 this particular night) were very excited to try both wines. Started with this one and we were all absolutely loving the ruby colour. Stunning was one description being bandied around. Again it was unanimously agreed that the bouquet was lovely straight away, but after swirling to warm it to release aromas everyone became more excited to taste. It was subtle but lovely. Pepper was mentioned, stone fruit (most probably black cherry) as well. Its always a great thing when our entire wine group love the same bottle of wine. It was agreed that everyone would be very happy to purchase this one. From the beautiful colour, the lovely bouquet to the final delicious taste we were all very impressed!

Hosting a table of staunch Shiraz and Pinot Noir drinkers, the cab blend sceptics were knocked for six by their enjoyment of Best’s 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon/Franc/Merlot blend.

Four of us delighted in a Sunday night indulgence of lamb racks, asparagus wrapped prosciutto and a bottle of wine or two, or three…!

‘Yummy’ was the first manageable adjective. As the group of cab blend sceptics became more tantalised and receptive to this brew, the words came. ‘Big like a cab, a thick wine with a fruity smell but also soft and smooth with no acidity. Liquid velvet. A sign of a well blended wine’.

The deep red hue is marvellous, followed by the enticing bouquet - slightly spicy with a fruity waft. The wine delivers a seductive grab – fruity, pleasantly dry, and no sign of acidity biting. Bold, but not too intense or sweet. As such, the liquid velvet glides throughout the mouth, tantalising with lashes of cherry, berry and subtle spice, complementing the lamb’s savoury profile and popping the prosciutto alive. The wine settled elegantly in the mouth, leaving us all reaching for more. The sceptics agreed BUY! Treat yourself to this wine when you’re after something a little more special, for that ahhhh moment that reminds you what quality really is.

You will not be disappointed.

We enjoyed the cab sav around the campfire whilst crossing the Simpson desert a few nights ago. I shared it with my partner and camping mates. The wine was lovely and smooth with a dark berry flavour and slightly spicy finish. After a good swish and swirl and the mouth the peppery flavour was complimented by a medium tanin. We all found ourselves wanting a second bottle but no shops in sight!!!
