The Riesling vines from Great Western produce flavoursome, elegantly structured, spectacularly age-worthy Rieslings which stand confidently alongside some of the most outstanding Australian examples of the variety. In recent times, the style has evolved to match the continental climatic conditions to a beautifully balanced wine with texture and aromatics.
The Best’s Tasting Panel gives many wine lovers the chance to explore wines across the broader Best’s collection, tasting new products which, they may previously not have discovered. It’s fair to say it’s our favourite grape varietal, and whether you call it shiraz or syrah there’s lots to love about this distinctive red wine. We’ve been making shiraz in our home of Great Western, Victoria for over five generations.
In August of 2020, Best’s Wines was named the 2021 Halliday Wine Companion’s Best Value Winery of the Year. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon one Australian winery each year in recognition of their dedication to consistently producing high-quality wines.

In the 100th year that the Thomson family has been custodians of Best’s wines, we thought it was time to ‘raise a glass’ to our treasured Chris. She’s very much the fabric of our winery and the local Great Western community.
In the long history of Best’s, only six non-family members have served as our winemaker. All others have been either a Thomson or a Best. So, it’s a significant milestone for one of these few, our current winemaker Justin Purser, to celebrate 10 years’ tenure.

With a pretty nose of wild roses, strawberries, blackcurrants and five spice, this mid weight wine has a plush and tangy core of ripe red and blue fruits with a soft and savoury finish.
2020 WILL CERTAINLY GO DOWN IN HISTORY as a vintage to remember! Unlike other Australian regions, we were fortunate to be unaffected by the smoke caused by the bushfires (mind you, we’ve had our fair share of fires in previous years!) and, while yields were down, the quality is looking superb.
