Best Kept Secrets Enewsletter

Dear //FirstName//

Vintage 2014 is almost done and dusted for another year! Harvesting our Great Western grapes is always a momentous occasion at Best’s. Despite a few dicey moments, this vintage has resulted in fruit with super concentration and lots of spicy aromatics. If you’d like to read more about our harvest, head to our website and read our vintage blog.

The 2012 Icon wines were released in March and we’re thrilled with the positive feedback. We also thought it was only fair to remind you that this is your last chance to enter our 60 Years of Shiraz Competition, where you and three friends could travel back in time with Australia’s winemaking royalty Viv Thomson and winemaker Justin Purser to taste your way through 60 years of Great Western Shiraz. The prize includes return airfares and accommodation, lunch in the underground cellars, and a private tour of Best’s 1867 vineyards. Simply purchase one of Best’s Icon releases before Thursday 17 April (click here for terms and conditions) for your chance to win.

We hope you enjoy our latest Best Kept Secrets eNewsletter and fingers crossed for those who enter our Icon competition!

The Icons are on the Loose!

Since releasing our 2012 Icon wines in March, the favourable reviews have been rolling in, and everyone at Best’s has smiles on our faces. If you haven’t heard, it’s not every year that we release these three Icon wines, so it’s worth grabbing a bottle or two while you can. Discover more about the Icons here.

If you’ve been lucky enough to try one already, what do you think? We’d love you to head to our website and write your review underneath the wine’s listing.

And don’t forget, if you purchase one of these Icon wines before 17 April you have the chance to win the brilliant 60 Years of Shiraz competition, worth more than $4000.

Obviously we love it when our loyal Best’s fans give us great feedback, but we’re also secretly chuffed when wine critics send us love, too. Tyson Stelzer, author of 14 wine books and a regular contributor to 15 magazines, waxed lyrical about our 2012 Thomson Family Shiraz and Bin 0 Shiraz. Here’s what he had to say:

2012 Bin 0 Shiraz

“Such charm that it's impossible not to fall for this vintage right away, yet it's built with the stamina for long endurance. Great intensity meets medium-bodied grace in a core layered with violets, Satsuma plums, blueberries and black cherries. Nuances of liquorice, high-cocoa dark chocolate and vanilla flash by along the way, but the focus remains resolutely on brilliantly defined dark fruits. Mineral-fine, tightly structured tannins point to great things in the next decade.”
96 points, Tyson Stelzer

2012 Thomson Family Shiraz

“The sheer vibrancy and purity of fruit is nothing short of a marvel from these grand, dry-grown 1867 vines planted by Henry Best himself. The 2012 is the 13th release, precociously backward on release, promising a monumental future, yet so irresistible now that it will take superhuman restraint to let it get there. Even in my strictly disciplined tasting routine I couldn't spit it. Such is its vibrancy of purple hue it’s almost luminescent, radiating brilliant shafts of violets, black plums, black cherries and raspberries in all directions. Wrapped into its folds, layers of star anise, liquorice and high-cocoa dark chocolate, lingering relentlessly amidst superfine tannins of pristine grace yet confident structure. One of the top half-dozen Australian wines of the past year. 2800 bottles. Make sure you get one of them.”
98 points, Tyson Stelzer

Best's 2013 Foudre Ferment Riesling

The Foudre Ferment Riesling is the successor of the very well received 2012 EVT 51 Riesling. Whilst the 2012 was the inaugural wine of this style from Best’s, the 2013 exhibits many of the same characteristics but just a little more restrained. Those who loved the EVT will really enjoy this wine too.

This wine is a representation of another facet of Riesling’s charms. Displaying complex aromatic honeyed richness with texture and acidity to balance, it is the ideal accompaniment to stinky creamy cheeses.

For a limited time only we have removed the Wine Club Only access on our website that applies to our Concongella Collection. Get in quick before this is reactivated on Friday 18 April!
