Does drinking wine cause headaches?

Smiley face

There are many theories surrounding the effects of wine on wellbeing and health, and we’re often asked by visitors why drinking wine – particularly red wine – can bring on a headache. Apart from the obvious reason (over-indulgence combined with not drinking enough water, perhaps), there are a few factors to consider. Surprisingly, the one component that gets the worst rap is highly unlikely to be the culprit. So sit back, take a couple of aspirin with that large glass of water, and find out what the real culprits might be.

Best Wine Bars in Brisbane

Smiley face

Wine, glorious wine! There’s no denying our love for wine bars – the swanky hotel ones, the ones down alleyways behind secret doors, the hipster ones that serve tipples while perched upon milk crates and cushions – they are an ideal way to sample a range of fine wine. In Brisbane especially, with its romantic sandstone architecture and intoxicating endless summer vibes, the love of the grape experience can be found in almost any direction you turn, with passionate restaurateurs and sommeliers ready and willing to impart their thirsty wisdom. From reds to whites and everything in between, Best’s Wines are popping up in venues all around this beautiful town. Slightly lower yields in 2019 have resulted in more concentration, but the perfume and persistence of these wines will ensure this is a great vintage in Great Western. Best’s winemaker, Justin Purser, shares his thoughts on vintage 2019.

Best's Wines: The little known grapes in our Nursery Block

bests-wines-nurdery-block

The Nursery Block at Best’s Wines has always been one of our treasured vineyards, and it is incredibly unique even on a global level. This block is a 1.2-hectare vineyard believed to feature the most extensive pre-phylloxera plantings in Australia, and possibly the world. Within the collection, there are more than 39 separate varieties planted, eight of which remain unknown and un-named to this day. International viticulturists have visited over the years, keen to research and take cuttings to discover more about some of the more unusual mix of vines within our custody. It’s a living museum and a vital part of our history – Best’s takes very seriously its role as custodian of this important piece of earth.
