Built in 1866, the Cellar Door is the heart of Best’s Wines’ operation. Situated in the picturesque Grampians in the undulating central Victorian countryside between Stawell and Ararat, Best's Wines lies in the historically rich wine-growing region of Great Western.

The old red gum slab tasting room is housed in the original stables and showcases old winery equipment, maps of the area, as well as Henry Best’s original journal dating from 1866. Visitors can take a tour of the 1860s cellars, which were hand dug by miners, and the original Nursery Block plantings, both of which represent a significant piece of Australian wine history.

Wines for tasting and sale include Best’s current range of wines as well as limited-release wines available through cellar door only. Rare and old vintages are often on display and, at times, releases of back vintages are available for purchase.

Winery tours and private tastings can be organised in advance and bus tours can be accommodated by prior arrangement. Be sure to check out if we have any events on while you're in the area.

Were you aware that Grampians Helicopters offer flights over our historical vineyards? They provide scenic flights and the very popular Best’s Picnic Lunch. You’ll fly over our door and land between the vines.

Enjoy a tasting of the complete line-up of our award-winning wines before taking a guided tour of the underground cellar door – it’s like stepping back in time. You’ll learn about the long history of Best’s and see some very old bottles and winemaking equipment.

Then it is time for your picnic hamper, which is supplied by a local restaurant. Why not add one of our bottles of wine to enjoy while you relax on a picnic rug?

Grampians Helicopters will then fly you back to the airport as you take in views of our vineyards and Grampians National Park.

"Even if not a wine person, a stop at Best's Cellar Door is worth it for the free self guided tour of their historic wine building and cellar. Loads of parking plus tables and lawns for picnics. Toilets on site. The cellar door do a good tasting range with friendly staff to guide you. Wines are excellent quality."

"We had a very enjoyable wine tasting at Best's. The cellar door is situated in the original stables of the vineyard and has a special atmosphere. The lady who served us was very knowledgeable about the wines and the history of the vineyard. The tasting serves were more than sufficient. We particularly liked the white blends and their interesting back-story. We also liked the Shiraz, especially the Bin 0 Shiraz. We then went on the self-guided tour of the old winery including the original cellars. The whole experience was very enjoyable and will be recalled by us when we consume the bottles we purchased."

"Interesting old winery established back in the very early 1800's. You can take a self tour into the old wine cellars and view antique tools for wine making. Free admission. Excellent wine and nice garden to eat a cheese plate you can purchase."
