2015 Great Western Cabernet Sauvignon
Colour: Dense inky garnet with deep magenta hue.
Bouquet: Rich berry aromas with some plum and blackcurrents in the mix. A background of cinnamon spice and nutty oak add complexity.
Palate: Lush and smooth dark fruit flavours with intense fruit tannins and a long rich finish.
Cellaring: It is possible to enjoy this wine now with food, but it will soften and gain complexity over the next 5-20 years.
Enjoy with: The perfect accompaniment to a slow cooked beef brisket.
Vintage: A moderate season with no real hot spells. Very cool nights and warm days ensured the grapes ripened fully but retained all their natural acidity. Reduced crops due to the dry weather and spring frosts. very good quality fruit this vintage.
Waffle: Ok some people say to keep this youthful wine in the cellar and allow it to mature but I don't do those things and live in the here and now – so enjoy this now you won’t be disappointed.
I am not a big cab sav drinker, I moved over to Shiraz for the past couple of years however this was surprisingly delicious. Best's wines are consistently good especially their red's. Dry, dark, spicy goodness in a glass with that amazing aroma - a little odd but I loved smelling this and couldn't stop - I wonder if anyone else has the same problem? I enjoyed this with some cheese and biccies in the afternoon and polished it off with our BBQ lamb chops but of course you could have lamb shanks, meatballs, duck... it's quite versatile which is great and perfect price point to not look like a tight arse when going to friends places for dinner/drinks. You won't regret this little number, grab a bottle and remember to smell it (I know I know third time I have mentioned it) and enjoy this dry, spicy, lush, earthy, spot on tannins, decadent vino.
