Best's Great Western 2013 The Concongella

In our 150th year, this wine celebrates Best’s history, traditions and the age of our vines.

The Concongella is a replica of the original red styles made here in the late 1800’s with the resultant wine more important than the varietal components.

To form this unique wine portions of our original 1867/1868 plantings of ‘Old Vine Pinot Meunier’, ‘Old Vine Shiraz’ and ‘Old Vine Dolcetto’ were co-fermented and macerated over several weeks during the 2013 vintage, before being basket pressed and matured in oak. The use of a cork with a wax seal forms a part of the style and its evolution.

Wine Profile

Colour Brilliant dark red with a ruby hue..

Bouquet Complex and gamey aromas with broody dark fruits, liquored cherries, liquorice, freshly tanned leather, undergrowth and roasted     woody spices.

Palate Rich and opulent flavours flow along the palate with the firm but fine grained and seamless tannins

Vintage An early budburst and warm spring set the vineyard up well with great fruit set and lush balanced canopies. The summer was mainly hot and dry and some of the dry grown vines struggled. The short and early vintage produced pristine fruit and rich varietal flavours in the wines.

Drink now to 40 years
