The Great Western region lends itself well to producing exceptional Riesling - diurnal weather promoting natural acidity and lifted aromatics. There is great history and pedigree in our Riesling. The origins of the mother vines, planted in our nursery block, have been traced back to Germany.
Chardonnay was one of the varietals planted first in the Concongella Vineyard in the 1970’s even though cuttings were extremely hard to come by at the time. This wine comes from an old single vineyard located on a cool sheltered site within the Great Western GI.
The blend is inspired by the great classic white blends of the noble white wine varieties in Alsace, France. Made from grapes sourced off our own Riesling block, and with Pinot Gris, Gewurtztraminer and Muscat from a passionate local grower.
Our Nursery Block is a veritable vineyard museum with 39 separate varieties, eight remaining unknown and unnamed to this day. This is a wine that speaks more about history, soils and place than variety, a unique expression of Australian wine heritage
Our "House Block" is as it says, is planted beside the Best's homestead and produces some exceptional parcels of fruit. In the best years we take these parcels and make something a little special out of them. Picked earlier, these wines have great flavours and are made off dry to balance the wine, making a great all round style.
A Foudre is a a large oak barrel, and this is where the magic happens for this wine. In a reincarnation of wines from a past era, this wine shows the style of Rieslings that have aged in our cellars for the last 40 or so years. With some skin contact, fermented in oak and with wild yeast, this is a very natural style of wine.
By taking the free run juice from predominantly Pinot Noir and Shiraz grapes, we have created a light, vibrant and dry Rosé, with strawberry and cherry flavour, pefect for the warmer months, which can be enjoyed chilled with food or as an aperitif.
