The meeting of two minds...Our own Champagne in time for Christmas.

In 2006, The Thomson Family at Best’s embarked on revitalising the sparkling wine production of years gone by in Great Western. Fortuitously, also in that year Edouard Huguenot, from the family Champagne house Huguenot-Tassin, worked the vintage at Best’s. An exchange of ideas occurred and led to a partnership project that has finally become a reality. We are delighted to announce that our ‘Partnership’ Champagne is now here for you to enjoy.  Continue »

2012 Vintage Blog: Anyone for Swallow Pie?

Great Western is experiencing some beautiful autumn weather at the moment, with very cool crisp nights and clear, warm sunny days; ideal for ripening Shiraz grapes to the optimum balance of flavour and freshness. We are having more of a battle against the birds at the moment. Those pesky balls of colour, mirth and grace are gorging on ripe grapes until their bellies burst, but they still come back for more. Vintage 2012 kick off: Bringing in the fruit…

The sun is back out and spirits are high after an inch of rain put everything on hold for a few days. We managed to pull in our entire Rhymney ‘MV6 clone’ Pinot Noir block before the rain fell and it looks like beautiful pristine pinot noir should. We hope this will make something special.  Continue »
