By taking the free run juice from predominantly Pinot Noir and Shiraz grapes, we have created a light, vibrant and dry Rosé, with strawberry and cherry flavour, pefect for the warmer months, which can be enjoyed chilled with food or as an aperitif.
To Celebrate the Release of our 2016 Bin 1 Shiraz and 2016 Cabernt Sauvignon we have put together a six pack containing three bottles of each. Our 2016 wines are a reflection of the intense vintage, our earliest on record. The wines show full intense dark fruit flavours, with good balance and length.
One of the greatest things about the Great Western wine region is its ability to successfully grow a broad range of grape varieties. Shiraz may be the regional hero, but Cabernet Sauvignon from the area can lay almost equal claim.
Made predominantly from Best’s own vineyards and meticulously crafted with the same attention to detail as the Icon wines, Bin 1 Shiraz represents the essence of Best’s winemaking ideals and the uniqueness of the Great Western region.
Made from Henry Best’s first plantings of nearly 150 years ago, the ancient Nursery Block is a veritable vineyard museum with 39 separate varieties, 8 remaining unknown and unnamed to this day. A lighter bodied wine that explodes with the personality, soil and history of the vineyard site.
This unique wine comes from our ‘Young Vine’ plantings of Pinot Meunier which were established in 1970- a century after our original “old vine” plantings, and the Old Clone Pinot Noir plantings, both from our Concongella Vineyard.
In 1967, for the first time, Best’s made wine solely from the Miller’s Burgundy planting of 1868, in the mid 1980’s, Danny Schuster, a viticulturist and author, identified that the small amount of Pinot Noir amongst the Pinot Meunier, one Swiss and one French. The French clone was deemed superior, so eleven further rows of the French selection were planted in 1987.
Pinot Meunier is among the oldest vines planted at our Concongella vineyard, dating back to 1868. Planrted as Miller Burgundy, it was used to blend with other varieties until 1967, when Viv Thomson convinced his father to make a single varietal wine. That first single varietal vintage was so good, it's been made that way ever since. Along with Shiraz planted beside it, these wines show great balance, length and fruit breadth, with an ability to age exceeding well.
