2010 Best's VIC Chardonnay

2010 Best's VIC Chardonnay

State:  Victoria
Region:  Swan Hill
Vineyard: St. Andrew’s, Lake Boga
Harvest date: 2nd February
Fermentation: Small French and American oak and stainless steel.

Alcohol: 14.0% VOL
Winemaker: Adam Wadewitz
Cellar potential: 1  -  3 years.

Style:    Light straw in colour with olive hues, the nose is lively and fresh, displaying varietal fruit and citrus characters.  A well balanced wine, soft and generous on the palate with some stone fruit essences.

The grapes:    These grapes have come from vines originally planted to Riesling and palomino.  In 1992 and 1993 the vines were very successfully grafted over to Chardonnay.  Obviously well suited to the limestone soils of our St. Andrew’s vineyard, these vines consistently produce high quality, full flavoured grapes and wines of great balance and clean acidity.

Vintage Notes:  In a hot year marked by drought, frost and exceptionally low yields St Andrew’s vineyard was our savior. While bunch weights were down the “raisined”  fruits retained good flavours and acid sugar balance resulting in wines with full fruit flavours, good mouth-feel and weight.

Food Match:    A great after 5pm wine.  Enjoy on its own while preparing the evening meal or team up with a simple H'orderve or summer meal.
