Whilst our iconic Thomson Family Shiraz is clearly the standout, Huon also notes “While Thomson Family is very scarce and expensive, the Bin no. O Shiraz ($65) is damn near as good and deserves a critique of its own. It’s based on old vines planted in 1966 and 1970, belended with younger-vine fruit and is one of the most elegant and cellar -worthy shirazes in the land. And sicne 2000 ther’s a Bin No1 Shiraz ($25) a delicious wine destined for earlier consumption.”
